I am so proud to announce the birth of my first son.

Born: Monday December 4, 2006 5:57pm
20 inches long
7lbs, 15 ounces
After 18 hours of labor at home (including 5 hours of pushing in a birthing tub, on our bed, standing, and sitting down),
out flooded a wiggling, healthy, beautiful baby boy. Please welcome
Arlo Blackman-McGrew.
I was incredibly impressed with the physical and emotional strength (not to mention clarity of mind) of my wife Alissa. When Arlo finally came out both Alissa and I were filled with feelings of gratitude and bliss as it dawned on us that Arlo was healthy, and Alissa was going to be ok. Within 10 minutes Arlo had successfully latched on and was sucking vigorously.

We have felt very supported during the birth by Alissa's parents, Norm and Mikki, our midwives (Leopi & Erin) and our close friends Elena and Christine. We also appreciate all of the emails, calls, and baby gifts from our wonderful community.
Since Monday night we have been learning a lot about Arlo's needs and personality. He is very communicative, and quick to be soothed. Now that Alissa's milk has come in, he has been eating quite frequently, ending his meals often with a funny and satisfying milk-drunkeness. We are in heaven!

My wife's due date for our first child is this Sunday, November 26th 2006. We couldn't be more excited. Last night my wife, her parents, our midwives, and two other friends who will be supporting us at the birth had a meeting to discuss the birth. I was so impressed with the attention to detail that I felt in this group, and am thankful for the support my wife and I will be receiving.
